on kora-kora at tanjung pilawang
Traveljunkieindonesia.com – Experiencing new things and having shifts in perspective. This is probably why I travel so much. Balance is also important. So as much as I love music and movies, I need my walks and rides through nature. My friends and locals are my family so quality time, communicating and spending time with them is important to me.
Once upon a time on an island of spices. I had a really wonderful, simple, but meaningful day. I’ve been in Tobelo, North Halmahera for Congress of the Indigenous Peoples of the Archipelago.
Yeah! The people of Tobelo are proud to call themselves descendants of changa, or pirates.

Traveljunkieindonesia.com – Once upon a time on an island of spices.
I had a really wonderful, simple, but meaningful day. The world is getting smaller every year.
April 2012, I’ve been in Tobelo, North Halmahera for Congress of the Indigenous Peoples of the Archipelago. Three weeks, I figured it was about time I started to live a bit more like a local.

Traveljunkieindonesia.com – April 2012, I’ve been in Tobelo for three weeks and I figured it was about time I started to live a bit more like a local.
Why did I get skinny dipping in Tobelo?
Travel has done some tremendous things to my life. It’s pushed me out of so many shells and made me open to so many new and different experiences I never imagined for myself. Traveling for so long and to so many new places has certainly transformed me.

Dodola Sunrise (Image courtesy of Adrian Mulya)
Traveljunkieindonesia.com - Yes I am back home in Dodola Islands. It’s a little island off the coast of Morotai, fringed with white sand as soft as powder snow, paired with an even smaller island by a narrow isthmus which disappears altogether at high tide.
Dodola is a sexy place by day. By night, occupying one of the grandiose wooden beach chalets constructed by the government and then, well, quietly forgotten about, it’s stellar. Cooking on the beach, splashing in the crystal waters with glittering droplets fluttering around you, all under a dazzling night sky.

Traveljunkieindonesia.com - Once upon a time on an island of spices, an old woman went to the jungle to collect rice. At that time, rice stalks grew in the woods, tall and verdant. On her way home, she slipped and fell into a stream. Stuck at the bottom of the river, the grains that she had collected would grow each year, and the woman’s spirit would become the guardian of the springs.
The story may be true only to the people of Wangongira, a remote village in West Tobelo, North Halmahera, North Maluku Province. However, the rice that grows at the bottom of the river really exists. The villagers call it akere mapine, or river rice, and the crystal clear stream molulu, which means “she who tumbled down.”
