Traveljunkieindonesia.com – My 77 year old grandmo from dad passed away peacefully a few days ago.

She had been ill for a long time, so it was not a shock.

It is a big relief that she is no longer in any pain or discomfort.

She was an amazing, talented, super-woman kind of woman, beautiful with gray eyes, sewed her own dresses, crocheted her own blankets, master chef, cooked up a storm, and did the book-keeping for her husband’s business.

[Book] Jakarta 25 Excursions In and Around the Indonesian Capital

October 18th, 2012 § 4 comments § permalink

Traveljunkieindonesia.com -YAY! Congrats for my friends, Andrew Whitmarsh and Melanie Wood.

They have just had a book published on Jakarta and the official launch is this Thursday. It’s called Jakarta: 25 Excursions in and around the Indonesian Capital. The book is bright and colourful and funny and useful and FULL of cool things to do in Jakarta. It’s got some secrets that I bet even you don’t know about!

Jakarta 25 Excursions In and Around the Indonesian Capital links over 500 activities and attractions into 25 half-day and full-day excursions; this is the first in-depth book on Jakarta that tells you exactly where to go, what to do and how to get there in order to maximize your enjoyment of the city.

Illustrated with nearly 40 maps and over 200 color photographs of the city, the 25 tours take you by the hand from the maritime and historical attractions of north Jakarta, down the culturally rich back streets of central Jakarta, to the peaceful parks and family attractions of the south; with 5 tours also exploring mountain, lake and seaside day-trip highlights from the capital.

Tender Novel ‘Nel’ Breaks the Rules

September 10th, 2012 § 0 comments § permalink

Traveljunkieindonesia.com - With his first solo novel, “Nel,” reporter and writer Dalih Sembiring combines bold stylistic excursions with compelling emotional content.

Before branching out on his own, Dalih — who is also a feature writer with the Jakarta Globe — co-authored “Cha untuk Chayang,” a “teen lit” story about the friendship between a girl and a transgender person, with Abmi Handayani.

“Nel” is a far more daring novel, with rapid shifts in perspective, from first to second to third person, and shifts in style, from a lean journalistic style to sections that read like a film script.
